Syllabus
I. American Art History: During the first semester students will study over 30 works of art from American History, from Pre-Columbian times through about 1820. The second semester will cover from 1820 to World War II. Throughout the semester selected books will be read aloud to bring history alive.
II. Art Projects: Each week students will reproduce a piece of art (or a portion of a piece of art) that they have studied in a variety of media.
III. Geography: Each week we will study American geography using puzzles, playing games, and reading a Holling Clancy Holling book. Students will also learn to draw the USA state by state from memory. During the second semester they will draw Canada and Greenland.
IV. US Presidents and State Capitals: Students will learn all of the states and their capitals during the first semester using fun memorization techniques and projects. During the second semester they will memorize the presidents in chronological order.
